Bestdays: A vintage Adventure

Ramblings for team Best Days as we embark on our vintage adventure

Folk, Rock, and Men in Frocks.

Jez Dixon

I realize it's nearly the end of this week now but personally I'm still recovering from last week. It was a manic one in bestdays towers. On the Thursday we had one of our in store gigs which was so busy we had to turn some people away. I'm sorry about that folks but it was for your own safety. You would have been thanking me later when The Dallys rocked so loud that they blew up one of the speakers and the whole shop smelt like smoke. Rock and Roll is by its very nature dangerous and you are obviously taking your life in your own hands by attending a gig right? Anyway by the next gig we'll have a more powerful PA and an extra fire extinguisher. sure.

Before The Dallys treated us to some rock and roll thrills we had the pleasure of listening to our very own Amber Burgoyne putting her smoky voiced spin on some classic songs. Maybe I'm biased because she works here but personally I could listen to her sing anything. Her Arctic Monkeys mash up was stunning but she could sing the phone book and it would be beautiful.

Then on Friday it was our monthly club night Leisure at V Bar. We had 2 splendid folk bands playing this month and as a man who prefers a distortion pedal to a banjo I have to say I loved both bands. There's something inherent in folk music that means you can't help but tap your foot and get swept up by it especially when it's played live. The Foxglove Company went on first and are clearly accomplished musicians with an ear for a tune. I don't think they've played many shows but you wouldn't have known from their performance.

It is impossible to rock any harder than this on the mandolin.

By the time Addison's Uncle took to the stage everyone was a bit tipsy and in my view that's the perfect time to listen to folk music. It was clear from the beginning that they were ace and it was pretty much a hoe down from then on in.

Addison's uncle are ace. Fact.

I can't really remember anything after that. There was definitely men in dresses. I know it was really busy and people stole my hat. Not cool folks. Not cool. I don't steal your shoes so don't take my hat. See you at the next one which is on Friday February 27th. I will be the one not wearing a hat. Love you bye! Jez x
